Meet RDAP: The New, Secure Way to Access Domain Info
The Registration Data Access Protocol (RDAP) is a new internet protocol designed to provide a more secure and standardized way to access domain name registration information. It is gradually replacing the traditional WHOIS protocol, which has been a cornerstone of domain information retrieval since the early days of the internet.
RDAP offers several advantages over WHOIS, including:
- Enhanced Security and Privacy: Unlike WHOIS, RDAP supports secure, encrypted connections, ensuring that data transmission is protected from interception.
- Standardized Data Structure: RDAP uses a more modern and standardized data format (JSON), which makes it easier for machines to read and process the information.
- Support for Internationalization: The protocol is designed to handle internationalized domain names and other non-ASCII characters.
- Access Control: RDAP allows for more granular access control, enabling registries to determine who can access certain data fields. This feature is particularly important for complying with data protection regulations, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the European Union.
RDAP service is now available also for .si domain names. More information with query examples is available on page https://www.register.si/en/rdap.
